FAQ

What services does the Graphic Design Team offer?
We can help you design any print products you need. We can also create infographics, logos, or 2D animations for you.
How do I place a new order?
Please send us an inquiry via email to grafik∂km.kit.edu. Ideally, please include a brief briefing. (What is needed, deadline, size, intended use, design preferences?). Billing is handled via our order form
Are there fees for the Graphic Design Department’s services?
The Media Design team’s services are subject to a fee; we would be happy to provide you with a quote.
Do I have to adhere to a corporate design (CD)?
Yes, for publications issued on behalf of KIT, the official KIT corporate design must be used. We ensure that logos, the corporate typeface, and KIT colors are used correctly. We are also happy to implement other required corporate designs (e.g., Helmholtz, Baden-Württemberg) for you. We are also happy to handle custom designs that are not tied to a specific corporate design.
How long is the turnaround time for processing an order?
That depends on the scope of the project. Simple corrections to products we’ve already created usually take two to three business days. For a complete redesign of a product, you should plan on at least five business days. For more complex, time-consuming orders or layouts, please allow at least two to six weeks. Please inquire well in advance!
In what format should I submit my content?
- Text: As an unformatted Word file.
- Images: High resolution (min. 300 dpi) as JPG, TIFF, or PNG.
- Graphics/logos: Ideally as vector graphics (EPS, SVG, or PDF).
Does the graphic design team also create digital content?
Yes, we create banners, icons, and social media assets optimized for display on screens. We can also create 2D animations for you. Please let us know your preferred format.
Does the graphics department also handle printing?
We prepare the data for printing. You will generally need to place the actual print order yourself with the KIT in-house print shop or external service providers.
If you need formats larger than DIN A3, we can plot them on various types of paper using our large-format plotter on various types of paper and have them further processed afterward. We’d be happy to advise you on this.
Where can I find the official KIT templates for designing my own materials?
You can find templates for PowerPoint and LaTeX here. For professional graphic design software (InDesign), you can request templates directly from us.
Any other questions?
Feel free to contact us via email at grafik∂km.kit.edu or via Teams.
